ATFL NEWS

March 2008

Dear Friends,

It’s official! The United States Patent and Trademark office has approved the trademark for After the Finish LineTM.

After the Finish LineTM is run by volunteers. Board members do not receive salaries. Your donations are given to rescue organizations to help support the Thoroughbreds in their care that would otherwise have gone to slaughter. No matter how hard these Thoroughbreds try, many will never win a race. Yet they try. You can contact me at dawn@afterthefinish-line.org to discuss donations to After the Finish LineTM.

Concern for the Thoroughbreds is growing. More and more people are aware that thousands upon thousands of Thoroughbred horses are not given the opportunity to transition off the racetrack into a second career. Unfortunately, they meet a less desirable fate. Your donation to After the Finish LineTM will allow these versatile Thoroughbreds to excel in a new career when their racing or breeding careers are over.

For the month of March emergency funds were given to Bright Futures Farm, ReRun and CANTER - Ohio. Funds were used to purchase supplements for Thoroughbreds in their mid to late 20’s and to cover boarding, feed, hay, farrier and veterinarian expenses. We take pride in supporting these Thoroughbred racehorse rescue organizations.

After the Finish LineTM has given grants and emergency funds to rescue organizations in California, Indiana, Ohio, Pennsylvania and New Jersey. Over time I look forward to being able to assist Thoroughbred rescues in all states. I am excited to grow our organization to achieve our goal of helping the Thoroughbreds in need.

Our February press brought additional donations and increased awareness to After the Finish LineTM. News 8 :: KFMB Stations, San Diego, California featured ATFL in a story titled, "Shaky Economy Leading to More Abandoned Horses." The Daily Racing Form ran an ad for ATFL on March 1 in the Santa Anita, Gulfstream Park, Laurel, Tampa Bay, Bay Meadows, Turf Paradise and Turfway Park sections of the paper. We are the featured organization in the Heroes 4 Horses column of The Fund for Horses and the Rescue Me column of Tuesday’s Horse. Visit our Press Page to read more.
